The 29 October 2001 saw one of my biggest mistakes in terms of making friends. I got the following mail from some fella called Bill:

It was an easy mistake to make - it doesn't mention the Coronets, let alone a song, and it is about three lines long - IT LOOKS LIKE SPAM DAMN YOU. So, I sent him a traditional email back:
Subject: one hundred and eighty!
Dear Bill
FLAPS! You were right -we really are ALOT different! However, if there's one thing I've learned in this world, it's that we have to make FRIENDS ACROSS BARRIERS, whether it's the peace line, the 38th parallel, or the BEEF CURTAIN between dance music and vocal-driven anthemic pop. So when I got your message, I went out STRAIGHT away and immersed myself into YOUR GREAT MUSIC, the World Darts Collection. It LITERALLY went in my ears,right the way through my brain and finally settled itself JUST BEHIND MY KNEES - bullseye! So Bill, thanks for the music; and above all thanks for those great, great memories.
Do send me an email when you have a second to let me know HOW you came across the coronets, what YOUR favourite song is, and where you think the most IMPOTENT differences between us lie. It doesn't matter what it is, I still look forward a TINY BIT TOO MUCH to what you have to say.

Damn it, it looks like he was serious! After several hours wringing my hands at man's inhumanity to man - oh all right, my inhumanity to Bill - I finally wrote back an email so friendly I am embarassed to put it up here. So for heaven's sake, why not visit the home of the WORLD DANCE COLLECTION, download some tunes, MAKE THIS NICE YOUNG MAN SOME MONEY and perhaps make me feel a bit better too? Thanks a lot - I really appreciate it.
