Mr Ssinging - back in 2005!

Well, it's been a long time. A very long time. I hadn't heard from Deany since I purchased some spam filtering software, essentially to keep Dean out. However, while looking through the 'spam' folder the other day, what did I see but a message from Dean. I couldn't resist opening it, and what did I read but:

A friend of mine from Cali e-mailed me suggesting I replace the 13th song on my set list with my original song "You're Inspirational To Me". I'm ready now to rock tonight at Mojo's in Austin, TX! Please wish me luck. I hope to see you at Cafe Brazil in Deep Ellum this weekend.

  1. Black...Pearl Jam
  2. Conflicting Interest...Original
  3. Creep...Radiohead
  4. If I Believe...Original
  5. Sign...Tesla
  6. GOD Heal Me Please...Original
  7. Champaign Super Nova...Oasis
  8. Fuck All Those A & R Guys...Original
  9. Mr. Jones...Counting Crows
  10. Who Needs You?...Original
  11. House Of The Rising Son...The Animals
  12. I Hate You...Original
  13. You're Inspirational To Me...Original
  14. You're Almost Dead...Original
  15. I Don't Like You Either...Original

My friends, you would need to be a stronger man than I to resist.

Stricky stricky stricky stricky stricky!

Just a quick one - I am also unsure as to the wisdom of opening with a cover, and having so many covers in the first few songs. Why not move black and dump creep altogether? It's not that good a song anyway.

Hope you accept this advice in the SPIRIT THAT IT IS INTENDED - chars -

Well, what do you expect now?

I know - no response. But I am going to surprise you. Looking back on these old pages, I seem genuinely annoyed at Dean, which seems to me now very unfair - all he was doing by ignoring my very rude emails was avoiding being lampooned on these pages, and you can't really blame him for that. So imagine my SHEER UNADULTERATED HAPPINESSwhen the great man replied:

Phil,

I'd like to go to London. What do you think the chances a poor boy can make it there with just a guitar and a back pack. What's the least expensive way to travel there? I'd like to go out there a book and play couple of shows at least.

Dean

My first actual reply to Dean

Stricky! ¡el strickola! Il Strickissimo! BIG DEAN.

Listen.

The cheapest way to get to Britain is probably the preserve of your TRAVEL AGENT. Though have you thought of a banana boat?

Getting gigs in London is easy, there are loads of open mic nights and music venues. Two questions though Deanywean:

  1. Are you ready for London?
  2. Is London ready for you? I KNOW YOUR SORT and frankly Dave I am unsure.

Note that there is no tradition of paying tips to musicians - you get a cut of the door and it is not generally very much. So if I were you I would come with a big wodge of cash shoved into your vestanpance, and take it out ONE NOTE AT A TIME.

Whatever you do though Stretchlimo, please do keep it Mencap -

A bit rude eh?

There's more to come on this one. I'm about to write to him again, and with my new found respect for Dean I may even be more polite. I'll keep ya posted...
