the hope and anchor - islington
address: 207 Upper Street, N1 1RL
NOTE: THIS is the pub that the Coronets played on Thursday 26 July 2001. This prestigious venue has also seen great gigs by such fellow-punks as the Jam and Dire Straits.
There are three ways to get to the hope and anchor.
- Go to Highbury and Islington Tube, and walk down upper street for 5 minutes odd. It's on your right. This is the shortest and easiest route, and is shown on the map.
- Go to Angel tube, and walk up upper street. This is about a 20 minutes walk, but eventually you will appear on the bottom of the map - the pub will be on your left.
- If you are feeling adventurous, go round the SILVERLINK METRO (north london line) to Caledonian Road and Barnsbury. This is closer than Angel - about 10 -15 mins. I recommend you take an A-Z if you do this, but for the record, find Offord Road (very close to the station) and walk North East along it to its end. Go straight on down Laycock Street. At the end of that you are on Upper Street - turn right; the pub is about 2 minutes away on the right.
However, Evie notes that the Silverlink Metro also goes to Highbury and Islington. So you could just go on an extra stop and save yourself a walk.
